Ian Gonzalez
Master Chess Teacher
Ian is a passionate chess instructor who has been playing since 2015 and became more competitive in 2024. He enjoys teaching students how to improve their middlegame tactics, endgame strategy, and overall confidence at the board. Ian has helped friends develop their chess skills to ratings around 1500 and also works with children daily while teaching dental hygiene. Born and raised in Costa Rica, he is fluent in Spanish, participates in chess clubs throughout Orange County, and is currently working toward a 1600 rating and his first tournament victory.

Long-Term Goals
Ian plans to become a dental hygienist, travel and explore different parts of the world, and continue improving his chess skills. One of his major chess goals is to win a tournament.
Fun Facts
Ian was born and raised in Costa Rica and is fluent in Spanish. He participates in chess clubs throughout Orange County, enjoys movies from the 2000s and vintage films, previously played football, once bench-pressed 215 pounds, and owns two katanas.
